Michelin food photographer Jeff Fierberg readies Denver café Hot Shot for next global menu

Jeff Fierberg, whose food photography is credited across the Michelin Guide's Colorado coverage, is launching Hot Shot Coffee's tenth rotating global menu in north Denver. Operating out of a repurposed York Street dry cleaner that sat vacant for 14 years, the café pairs accessible neighborhood coffee with quarterly drink menus inspired by world food capitals. Following its late-summer Savannah series, Hot Shot debuts its next seasonal program—dedicated to Hokkaido—on 18th October.

Jeff Fierberg documents Colorado's most decorated dining rooms, with the Michelin Guide crediting his photography of starred kitchens including Brutø, The Wolf's Tailor, Basta, and MAKfam. At Hot Shot Coffee—which he co-owns with Sky Armstrong at 3358 York St.—that high-end culinary lens is translated into a neighborhood counter inside a 6,500-square-foot former dry cleaner that stood vacant for 14 years. Since opening in May 2024, Hot Shot has staged distinct menus dedicated to global food cities, including Mexico City, Bangkok, Seoul, Copenhagen, London, Palermo, and Savannah. The newest menu, launching Oct. 18, focuses on Hokkaido, introducing seasonal drinks including a miso brown butter latte, salted white chocolate foam-topped cold brew, and yubari melon tonic. Alongside the rotating specialty drinks, Hot Shot protects everyday access for long-term Cole and Clayton residents by keeping standard drip coffee priced for the street at $3.50. The building's back hall also serves as a neighborhood hub, hosting the free Honour Tile Society mahjong meetup that draws up to 60 players each month, alongside local food collaborations like Ellow Bakery's pop-up on Oct. 25. "Most days I'm photographing dining rooms where dinner is a rare occasion," said Fierberg. "Hot Shot is built for the everyday rhythm: you can come in every morning, stay as long as you like, and every few months taste something specific to another city." Hot Shot Coffee is open daily from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3358 York St., Denver.

Trend context

As coffee retail prices rise nationwide and independent hospitality spaces face mounting commercial pressure, Hot Shot pairs accessible neighborhood pricing with an ambitious culinary program. Following the September 2026 announcement of Colorado's updated Michelin Guide—which renewed attention on Denver's culinary standing—Fierberg is using the seasonal menu format to bring the specificity of global food destinations to a daily neighborhood counter.

About Hot Shot Denver

Why we exist

Hot Shot exists because coffee does not have to taste the same everywhere. Coffee, like food, can belong to a place and tell its story, so every few months the menu takes on a new city. And a neighborhood needs a room where people can sit as long as they like, so the plain cup is priced for the street it is on.

How we do it

The menu changes every few months to a new city, inspired by the owner's travels and chosen for the season, with syrups made in house. Drip is priced for the neighborhood so nobody has to buy their way into a seat. The café shares a former dry cleaner with Dry Clean Only, an event space for about 300 people standing, and lends its room to neighbors: a monthly mahjong meetup, bakery pop-ups.

What we do

Hot Shot Coffee is a neighborhood coffee shop at 3358 York St., Denver, CO 80205, at Bruce Randolph Avenue, serving the Clayton and Cole neighborhoods. It sells espresso, drip, matcha, rotating city menus and pastries from nearby bakeries, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every day. It sits inside Dry Clean Only (DCO), an event venue in a former dry cleaner. Co-owners: Jeff Fierberg and Sky Armstrong. Opened May 1, 2024.

Why it matters

If Hot Shot vanished at midnight, the corner of York Street and Bruce Randolph Avenue would lose a cup priced for the street, a room where 40 to 60 people play mahjong each month and a menu that changes city every few months. The enemy is coffee as a global commodity that tastes the same everywhere, and good buildings left empty. The victor is the regular who drinks a new city every season without leaving north Denver.

Who it's for

The neighbor who works from home a few blocks away and walks over at 7 a.m. She wants a cup she can afford every day, a seat by the window and, every few months, something new from somewhere far away. She stays till noon.

Spokespeople

Jeff Fierberg

co-owner, Hot Shot Coffee; photographer, filmmaker and creative director, Bowery Creative Dept

Origin scar: he opened a coffee shop without ever having worked in one. None of Hot Shot's founders had coffee experience when it opened (Westword, May 2024), and most of his working life is client work, making the pictures other people need. He told Westword in 2025 that MRKT, which he paid for himself, is the part of his life he holds on to. Unfair advantage: a Denver native who grew up around newsrooms and studied film at CU Boulder (his 2020 conference bio), years photographing Colorado's Michelin-starred kitchens, 219,000 followers on Instagram and his own creative studio. The pivot: he does both, client work by day and his own projects, from a year in the world's markets to a café menu that changes city every few months.

The story

The Michelin Guide has credited Jeff Fierberg's photographs of Brutø and The Wolf's Tailor. With his wife, Sky Armstrong, he co-owns Hot Shot Coffee in a York Street dry cleaner that stood empty for 14 years. Since 2024 its menu has named seven cities, from Mexico City and Seoul to Palermo and Savannah, and on October 9 Hot Shot said a new menu is coming.

Why it matters

While Fierberg's photography documents Colorado's most exclusive Michelin-starred dining rooms, Hot Shot is deliberately structured against culinary gatekeeping: pricing standard drip coffee for long-term Clayton and Cole neighbors while using a 6,500-square-foot industrial shell to anchor community mahjong meetups and regional culinary pop-ups.

Who does it impact

Working-class residents and remote workers in Denver's Clayton and Cole neighborhoods looking for an affordable third space, alongside local food enthusiasts tracking international specialty drinks unavailable elsewhere in the city.
